Travel Gadgets – Mobile Hotspots

One of the handiest gadgets you can have while travelling in a group of 2 or more is a Mobile Hotspot. People often ask me if they think it’s worth it, considering they have their mobile phone with them and they can tether via this.

My answer is generally one of ease. Tethered connections generally don’t stay on all the time, and if you’re rocking an iPad mini or other tablet that needs to tether it can be a pain to keep reconnecting as it drops out.

So the short answer from me is yes, it is worth it and here are my top 3 choices for mobile hotspots as of October 2018.

  1. TP-Link M7350
  2. Huawei E5770
  3. KuWFi 4G Pocket Travel Partner

TP-Link M7350

This is a powerful little package which features the following key statistics:

  • Dual Band 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz
  • 4G LTE 150Mbps
  • 10 Devices can connect
  • 2000mAh Battery
  • Both Micro and Nano Sim Card Support

Huawei E3770

Another powerful and portable unit this time from Huawei. There isn’t much splitting this and the TP-Link other than the rather massive battery life being offered on the Huawei.

  • Massive 5200mAh Battery
  • 11 Devices can connect
  • Can be used as a power bank for other devices
  • Can be used with a broadband connect

KuWFi 4G Pocket Travel Partner

This one is out of left field, but is the budget option. With a wide range of frequency support and also packing a 5200mAh Battery is is also a good option if you’re happy to go with a very generic option.

  • Massive Battery
  • 10 Devices can connect
  • Wide range of frequencies supported

This is by no means an exhaustive list and this list doesn’t encompass the many semi-portable options that are on the market, but for traveling both around Australia and around the globe, having a portable hotspot as part of your kit is a winner.
