Simpson Desert – Go West

Who we’re finally heading west after our long detour to the south. Leaving Warren at 8am, we headed towards Broken Hill on a chilling 1 degree morning.

We stopped in Nyngan for some fuel and dad managed to pick up some gluten free snacks. He also had to remove a bird from the roof rack that unfortunately turned the wrong way and became lodged between the tarp and a fuel can. Sorry little bird 🙁

Wes stopped by the side of the road for some morning tea, one of th great thing bout NSW roads is the abundance of rest stops.

The road was very straight, but yet very interesting, and the weather, albeit quite cool, was just sensational, with clear blue skies as far as the eye can see across the flat endless plains.

We stopped in Cobar for a grocery shop and fuel top up and took the chance to go to the lookout. I thought it would be a lookout for the surrounding area, however it was positioned right on the edge of a very large mine opening.

More straight roads followed, lined almost the entire way with wild goat herds.

Lunch was held by the side of the road before continuing on to Wilcannia.

We ended up staying at a property/caravan park just east of Wilcannia which has great facilities including power and in powered camp & caravan sites, as well as very modern cabins.

Today we’re heading to Broken Hill and over into South Australia. Not sure where we’ll stay yet, but it will be somewhere just south of the Flinders Ranges.

Cheers, Kent
