Still heading West

We departed our accommodation, Warrawong, just east of Wilcannia on our way to South Australia, but not before Dave caught some fresh water lobbies in the creek for breakfast!!

We’re not entirely sure where we will end up tonight, but again, that’s all a part of the adventure.
After a quick fuel stop in Wilcannia, we continued on towards Broken Hill. We chose not to spend a lot of time in Broken Hill as we wanted to push on so that we could spend a night in the Southern Flinders Ranges.  In order to do that we needed to get as close as possible to there this evening.

We ended up choosing Peterborough as our destination for the night, and worked towards arranging some accommodation.

We stopped on the NSW side for some morning tea at a road side truck stop. Here we had to begin consuming as much of our fruit as possible as you can’t take Fruit and Vegetables into South Australia.

The roads today were smooth and straight, however the scenery when driving into South Australia, and seeing the amazing landscapes with plains followed up by ranges in as a back drop were the scene’s paintings are made of. We saw copious amounts of Goats on the NSW side and an equally copious amount of Emu’s on the SA side. It’s like they’d come to an agreement to stay our of each other’s territory!!

Lunch was held at the NSW/SA border at a place called Cockburn. There isn’t much there, just a Pub, rest stop and a sign. We had lunch at the rest stop and took a photo in front of the sign.

We made it into Peterborough but unfortunately had to stay in separate locations. 4 our of 5 stayed in a nice Motel, and Dave, the tough one, camped at the Caravan Park. Dinner for some of us was at the Railway Hotel where they had a $18 2 course roast dinner available.

We’re off to the Flinders Ranges next, looking forward to getting into the off-road portion of our journey.

Cheers,

Kent.
