Similar to travelling in most national parks and some state parks, travelling through to Simpson Desert requires a permit.
This is actually pretty easy to obtain and they last for 12 Months. You an pick up the pass from Mt Dare before we hit the desert, you could also get it online just before we leave, or you could get it now.
One advantage of getting it now means that you also get the Desert Parks Handbook which would be nice to have in advance.
I’m thinking of getting ours some time in the new year just so we can have a flick through it with plenty of time.
Of course, nothing in life is free and pricing for the Desert Parks Pass at the moment is $150, which is pretty steep, but again, it’s valid for 12 months.
Check out the link below for more information on the pass.
